Paralysium

2024-2025

“Paralysium” - a combination of lived and literal paralysis and elysium alluding to ancient mythos of afterlife.

In July of 2020 at the age of 25, 6-months into a global pandemic, I was diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of a salivary gland. The next 3 months consisted of innumerable biopsies and scans, culminating in an 18-hour facial surgery to carve out the cancerous tumor and nerve it encased. Haunted by stillness, depression, pain, PTSD, anxiety, loss, and never ending future questions. This work is an homage to the silent rage of the parts removed, dysthymic ghosts and the nature of beauty.
